I started by going over my notes from our meeting with Ali. Things that stuck out in my mind were
1) "the website is for the parents"
2) women are the most responsive
3) he loves the color indigo
4) he wants an "edgy" feel
From there, I wanted to see similar organizations' websites. The vast majority are mediocre aesthetically, however, I was able to locate three pretty good-looking examples of kid-focused, community athletics programs websites:
Skyhawks.com
i9 Sports
KidsSportsAndFitness.com
I wouldn't call any of those websites "edgy", but they look better than most that I came across. Next, I wanted to check out some logo and type ideas for what the new Athletics & Beyond might look like. I took a look at some logos and found three that seemed to relate in different ways to what we may be going for.

Still though, no edge...I do find it interesting how the NBA logo is just naturally split into 2 main colors...Ali loves the idea of a landing page split into 2 sides (Athletics/Beyond). Of course i'm not talking about mimicking any of these logos...just brainstorming ideas.
Next I checked out some graffiti-like fonts and played around with the typography. I also decided to extrapolate colors based on a couple of different shades of indigo.

And lastly, I checked out some different WordPress themes, since we're using a WordPress site. Obviously, we would change some of the layout and colors.
I found one that uses red (Ali likes red).

Another good one uses an image gallery prominently placed that we could use as navigation.

And finally, this one uses another image gallery but adds an embedded video onto the home page.
